Well, it seems like it has been anounced now and we will be seeing a new G film in 2012!!!!!! :!: I'm not going to take the links everyone is posting at CT and Tk since I am sure that we all go there too. I just like dicussing things here more sonce everyone get s along so well.

My question is, do you think that this is going to change G forever? Will the old way of making G films go by the wayside now? I am hoping that Legendary take the Where the Wild Things Are route and mixes the 2. Also, if this turns out well, I don't think that Toho will be doing amy more G films either. Oh well, as long as it's G, I am happy!!!!

Yep I just saw the news earlier today and am very surprised & excited! I'm glad to know the movie will be taken cared of by both Legendary Pictures & Warner Brothers. Both have been producing quality films and I am hoping that it won't be another flop like the Tristar film.

I'm curious to see how much of a role Banno plans in the film as it looks like he's listed as one of the producers. Will this be the 3D Deathla film that we've given up on? Is Godzilla going to fly again? Will it be a sequel to GINO? A remake of G'54? Will the movie take place in an the past but in an alternative universe like Watchmen? Will it be shot in the style of Cloverfield? Will Godzilla go solo, be a hero, an anti hero, or the complete destroyer? Will classic monsters make appearances or a new monster arise? The list keeps going on. How cool is it to revive Godzilla just in time for the end of the world! I do hope they will release it before just in case 2012 is real. I want to see the film before I die! LOL

I have a feeling they are going to do CGI with Hollywood's technology. While I love CGI if done properly, suitamation will certainly be missed. I do hope they will combine blend the two together somehow similar to Avatar I guess where they put sensors around an actor like a virtual suit. As long as there's new Godzilla movies and merchandise, I'll be happy! And who knows, with the trend of bringing back classics, maybe Gamera will come to the US next!

You know, if this is good, I would expect that it might be the end of the Japanese Godzilla. I am sure that Toho would be OK with sitting back and reaping the rewards of an American Godzilla series.

Now, if it is bad, I don't think that Toho is going to have the same attitude they did last time. After GINO, they decided that they didn't want Godzilla to be remembered as that monstrosity and did a new series of films. I think if it goes wrong again, they may consider Godzilla's image beyond repair and just let him fade away. I don't think they would EVER totally sell his rights to anyone either.

That's why this is such an important film for us fans. I am not too worried about this happening since we haven't been the most discerning film fans of late and all it seems to take is some good CGI and explosions to make a boatload of $$$$. I think that this is going to be the beginning of a great new Godzilla franchise. There will be plenty of new Bandai/Japanese toys for us to throw our money at and hopefully some nice domestic ones too.

Well, that's what I think. Anyone else have an opinion?

BTW, watch out for April Fools pranks today!!!!!!

Agreed 100%. Also, don't forget about the DVD and blu-ray releases we'll get. With all the fan letters they've been getting recently, along with this new movie, Miramax HAS to release Godzilla vs. Biollante now!

When I read legendary's press release saying something along the lines about staying true to Godzilla. I wonder if they meant America's love for the cheesy elements of the series we've all come to love, or the more somber Godzilla films like the original Godzilla and Godzilla Returns?(Also some other films, G-fans you know which ones)

As far as Suitmation goes, I don't believe it would work yet I have nothing to compare it to. I've never seen a 200 million dollar(The assumed cost of Godzilla 2012) suitmation film before. Used in combination with CG it could work with some good editing. Let's remember that many of the scenes in the original Jurassic Park of T-Rex were animatronic something like that I could see being used. Having an actual Godzilla Animatronic head has been used in many Godzilla films. Having one built by Stan Winston studios or something similar would be a sight to behold.

I think suitmation along the lines of Where the Wild Things Are with a good mix of CGI would work great. The only problem with comparing the new G film to JP is that the scale is totally different. It would have to be suitmation with CGI set pieces. I think it will look awesome either way. If you look at most recent big budget releases, the effects haven't been the problem. It has been the terrible stories that have bothered me.

BTW, onedayover, do you mind me asking where you are in NJ? I live in Bridgewater and will be moving to Somerville this month. Nice to see a fellow NJ Godzilla fan!
